How long have we to wait?

Kerala the little south-west part of india is just not a piece of land famous for its scenic beauty comprising seas and rivers and greenery,or for the name earned earnestly as 'gods own country'.It has by now many beautiful feathers in its splendid crown and we are the fortunate ones to being a part of it. when people around the world come in hundreds to veiw its beauty, study our traditional and cultural values, and taste our delicacies we become the proud hosts getting goose-bumps because less do we see them sighing over the ill-maintained roads and shop premises which are always strewn with waste papers and plastic bags or bottles. We are known for our high literacy rate. But where do we show it?In communication, cleanliness, or godliness. Our children struggle to complete one sentence in english without a grammatical error. Thanks to the government and the right to education scheme.Teachers are putting their best and no blaming them cause thats how things have been since years. Now we have new schemes for teachers who are taught spoken english by NGO's.And lets not blame parents who prefer private schools for their wards, but we surely need to raise our voice when somebody calls it as discrimination.Parents pays high fees and admit their wards in private schools not because the state going children are poor but due to the never rising standards of the state schools. After 12 years of schooling when they find their ward struggling to communicate in english or cope up with his or her higher education curriculam it surely is heart breaking.
Now coming to cleanliness.Isnt it an honour when tourist carry back with them in their minds, pictures of waste accumulated with plastics and garbage, stagnant waters and breeding mosquitoes. All luxurious passers-by watch through their raised window glasses and sometimes raise voices but like always it ends up as more said and little done.Gujarat and mysore model waste recycling plants are all old stories,we are waiting for something more lucrative and enovative so that we could become the most advanced role models to other states like our kudumbasree project.Lets have a clean and hopeful dream.
Cleanliess is next to godliness.Rightly said but less understood. An ariel view of kerala would surely make you thank your stars and god for making you a part of his beautiful creation but a look closer and you would gulp back your words. We are a land of exemplary heritage and cultural values. That surely must have come from the age old temples when there were no symbols of crosses and cresents. But today they outstand in numbers standing high over demolished temples of the yester years.churches are permissible to all.But you need to change to christianity for more accessibility to the church laws. Mosques are totally religion biased. But out of the crowd there is but one mosque which needs mention and it is called the vavar palli(Mosque) where countless pilgrims heading towards sabarimala, the abode of lord ayyappa offer prayers and pay their respect to vavar before ascending the holy 18 steps to the world famous shrine. This could be one among the best symbols of unity in diversity. The hindu god ayyappa had a muslim accomplice and that is a novice. And he is said to sleep every night hearing a song sung by a christian. 'The harivarasanam'.A soulful song rendered by kerala's own gana-ghandarva yesudas who has visited this temple every year as per belief by taking the 41 days fast and following the rules as by all other pilgrims. This same singer visits the mookambika temple every year to celebrate his birthday and shows his gratitude to the people who have never banned his entrance for being a christian and he pleases the godess by rendering his soulful numbers. There is but one temple in kerala, the 'guruvayur' situated in trichur, where lord krishna is the diety and the only temple where this great singer is banned because he is a non-hindu.Yesudas's plea of having a glimpse of lord krishna has not but once fallen on authoratative ears for all these years. What could this be called?

Hello Prita,
You write quite evocatively and I went through your post with a lot of interest. Being aware of one's shortcomings is a part of the amelioration process.

May I suggest you to consider some paragraph breaks in your post?

About education, I have a word called "Signiterate" to use, if traditional ones like literate and illiterate do not describe the status of everybody in a state that is 100 percent literate.

Thanks
A N Nanda
