You are what you are - Tatvamasi

Life in mumbai  has always been a celebration, may it be diwali, ganapathi, dussehra, christmas or ramzan. Though a very busy town and people living a fast and mechanical life, still festivals would be abuzz and enlightened with fun and more of an enthusiasm amongst all, irrespective of caste or religion. You would  get to experience the real integrity in diversity no where else in the world except mumbai. I was a hindu but I was connected more to the church and christ, my parents never once objected  or restricted me or my brothers  about our beliefs, my christian friends accompanied me to the temple and none barred or scared them. After I settled in kerala I got attached to the temples and got detached from the church, but christ did not punish me, he never came in once to my dreams and asked me why I was not praying to him. It was then I understood no matter whom you believe or to whom you pray, it is your mind to whom you question  and you are answera...

The forbidden veil

It is a shame to talk about love-jihad in a country like kerala which calls itself 100% literate.Hindu and christian girls finding solace under the hijab and burkha are going missing to untraceable regions of either syria or tehraan and recruited to IS. The situation is alarming  and every possible steps need to be taken to warn our children of the danger. Girls are lured with sky high dreams of money, job and other luxaries and a thorough education of the islaam religion is given. When the net's are thoroughly laid the prey is trapped and  she is lost in a world called 'Hell'. Where are we going wrong?  Is our education system lacking something very much or are the family backgrounds too weak and unhealthy that girls do not find anything wrong in detaching themselves from her family and  having no pity for her beloved ones,  just leaves her home with this man or boy whom she met yesterday. Christian girls falls less prey compared to the hindus because the churc...

KEEP MOVING KEEP THE FAITH

Image
I bought a boot and a jersey with the money my father gave me to buy a new dress for Id. My heart was always on the ground and i wanted to start from there and touch the sky's. I began with handball, then athletics and finally came to football                              My greatest inspiration and support was my father who wanted me to champ, he ignored the family and community norms and helped me follow my heart. but at times destiny plays its cruel game, sometimes to jolt us to consciousness and make us strong or to take independent decisions of our life. It came in the disguise of an accident and snatched my father in such a way that god didn't even show me the  mercy of having a last look at him.He was cremated in Dubai itself. Fate glared at me in the eye and i was lost. That was the first blow of my life. We were six siblings and i was the fourth, sports was never a cup of tea for women specially in...

"what am I"

Every action of a man is an internal orientation. It may be a good one or a bad one. Every action reflects a pesrons character. There is an outer being and an inner-being. Just as we make-over our outer-being in all possible ways to look attractive, the same way our inner being also needs a replenishing, as this is the way to polish your mind and soul, because it is the highest form of consciousness and intelligence which deserves a freedom or detachment from the body. This is the only way one can attain happiness, pleasure and enjoyment of the mind, this in simple words could be told as mental freedom. An imprisoned inner-being only brings pain, sorrow and discomfort as its narrowness to exist only fills in you desires to possess and accumulate. Whats the use of having all the richness and luxuries and no happiness.                             Our physical self or the annamaya kosha is activated only because of the ...

The meaning of duty is not sacrifice

It was a bright sunny day and as usual i was ready at my  table waiting for my client who had taken an appointment the previous day. At 11 a.m a tall and fair women with a little plump figure, came sporting a little smile that the tender leaves would feel when the first drop of rain falls on it, her eyes with a little dark circles held secrets as deep as the sea and as she sat before me placing a small peice of paper with her date and time of birth. i watched her with not much curiosity and fixed my glance to her horoscope details.                                                               After studying her chart, I lifted my eyes and saw a face swelled like a rising sun and waiting to burst into flames.....There was anger, fear, frustration and emotion all put in together in a young women called merlyn. I looked into her ...

mosquitoes

Oh dear mosquito have you no sense? why do you bite with so much intense? learn to be at peace in a country like ours where ahimsa is ghandhi and ghandi is ours. My blood for you, too precious a meal, to watch you feed on me with so much zeal, i am not a useless lifeless peice of flesh, you prick and hurt and i would blush You hurt little children and feel too bold, you show your skill on the weak and old you ought to be ashamed and not proud, you are a curse to the whole world so blessed are the butterflies, they inspre the big and the small, poets and writers on their wings fly, on their beauty and life all do envy. so should you oh! dear mosquito be loved and envied by all self-realization may be your goal re-incarnate to a better soul. .

A few months from now when we were a five member family it was totally a different scenario when ever I came back home after a temple visit or shopping.I used to be welcomed in a special manner, making me wonder whether I had just left house a few hours back or weeks and months before. Taking a little time to reach the gate due to old age and eyes deep red after a long morning nap figuring outwith a fixed glance and assuring its me. Then authoritatively questioning me with his wordless speech and waiting for all the answers and all my love in just one glance. Those few seconds I still consider as the most beautiful and precious moments of my life.A feeling of wantedness. How courageous I felt with him around is incomprehensible .No body dared to raise an eyebrow or even speak in a raised tone, none dared to pluck even a leaf from my garden, no cats meowed bravely from the nook or corners ,snakes crawled sluggishly with their tender selves not daring to cross into my compound .Cockroac...

Wives wanted but not daughters

Image
Disgusting, shocking and unbelieveable. That actually are not appropriate words for a henious crime being done on yourself and an innocent life within you. What could actually be done for reducing or banning such illegal activities stands before us as a mountainous task.A few years from now and a few states of india will face a huge shortage of girls. Now that the ratio of female to male stands at 940\1000,this could create a further imbalance with more and more clinics conducting the banned sex-determinig tests. The state of the maharajas which reports of approx. 300 female child being aborted daily is by no doubt a national shame.Every man needs a women but not all fathers wish for a daughter. You dont have to break your brains or conduct debates to get to the reason for this unjust and uncaliberated way of thinking. It is very simple.A word which has no relevancy may be anywhere in the world except two places one in india and the other in the dictionary.Yes 'Dowry' the five le...

How long have we to wait?

Kerala the little south-west part of india is just not a piece of land famous for its scenic beauty comprising seas and rivers and greenery,or for the name earned earnestly as 'gods own country'.It has by now many beautiful feathers in its splendid crown and we are the fortunate ones to being a part of it. when people around the world come in hundreds to veiw its beauty, study our traditional and cultural values, and taste our delicacies we become the proud hosts getting goose-bumps because less do we see them sighing over the ill-maintained roads and shop premises which are always strewn with waste papers and plastic bags or bottles. We are known for our high literacy rate. But where do we show it?In communication, cleanliness, or godliness. Our children struggle to complete one sentence in english without a grammatical error. Thanks to the government and the right to education scheme.Teachers are putting their best and no blaming them cause thats how things have been since years....

Why this caste holiday?

The most loved, cherished and awaited day of every person whether in school or in office is undebatedly a 'holiday'.It would be a pleasure for all if one or more holidays were added to the prevailing national and state holidays.Imagine if we were to have one each for every caste? we would then have very few working days and lo! it will give a boost to the day by day increasing casteism and inter-caste egoes and fights.Yes our state kerala, the 100% literate state of which we are and will always be proud of, has set an example by declaring a holiday to the nair sect for the mannam-jayanthi in memory of the great leader mannathu padmanabhan who dedicated his life for the betterment of human and fought for their rights. His cause was not religion-biased but the given holiday is surely one.Which could not be appreciatd or accepted. Why then is sree Narayana guru jayanthi and Ambedkar jayanthi state and national holidays?.Life of people are advancing blindly into an advanced world ...

when people go insane gods hide in shame

'The Land of the insane' This was the beautiful name given to Kerala a hundred years ago by Swami Vivekananda on his first visit to Kerala. On November 12 1892 while on his way to kanyakumari he had to alight at shornur railway station as there were no railway lines beyond that. His friend and follower Mr.Sreenivas iyer waited with his palki to welcome Swami to his home at Trichur. He sat abode the palki enjoying the beauty of this heaven on earth. The lush greenery and clustered coconut palms took away his heart, and he must have muttered 'Gods own country' Unknowingly. The palki carriers as they swung their bodies in motion to their synchronizing tune alerting the people of the arrival of a high-caste person. At a place called Mullakkara, swamiji happened to witness how a man was being pushed to keep away from the road. When asked he was told that it was a custom prevailing in Malabar or northern Kerala that a man of a low caste should hide himself if a man of a hi...

'Mothers keep an eye'

All mothers out there working at home or at office. keep one eye open if not both and one ear closed so that what you hear causes less harm to your heart and mind.Dont let your conscience one day ask you "what a mother you are'.I wouldnt ask you to not believe in your children but not wholly.Gone are the days of your childhood when you followed your route of home-school-home or home-college-home.We grew up with certain ethics and principles and we do wish our children imbibe them and grow likewise. But our little babies are in a complete different era.In trying to keep pace with the fast growing and revolutionizing world. These little kids have little idea about family values(forget traditional) or cultures. Internet and mobiles are the two major culprits.Fixing dates and places of meeting at Malls, theatres and parentless homes.Mainly flats because its a better option with no eyes and ears following you except the watchman who sticks on to his job by just' watching'...

The women who made heaven on earth

Talent is what you possess and genius is what possesses you' Here meet this women who gave meaning to her life by planting more than 300 trees. She carried pails of water on her head and shoulder for distance of four kilometers to water the trees planted by her and her husband chikkaiah.Thikkamma was the reciepeint of many prestigious awards(National citizens award-1995,Indira priyadarshini vrikshmitra award-1997,veera chakra prashasti award-1997 and a certificate of honour from the welfare department( W&C) karnataka and a certificate of appreciation from the Indian Institute of wood science and technology. All these were feathers of her crown with which she grew to fame but none of these provided her what she needed the most in her oldage.Though we say trees provide us with shelter. tikkamma struggled with her lonliness till the awards and certificates and trees blurred from her vision and she flew from her heaven on earth to the garden of eden.

May humanity be your goal

'All the world is a stage and all men and women merely players'.truly said by shakespere. The only difference being the players who could be categorised as rich, very rich, poor and very poor.I hope this letter would fly to you like a white dove and fulfill my duty of creating awareness of the very poor who happen to leave your state and live a life of dirt and stink in other states becoming a blotch to your famed name and a shame to your fast growing infrastructure and technology. Art of progress is to preserve order amid change and to preserve change amid order. Your state which is now on the treshold of topping the charts of indian states could make your citizens proud and for others a role model to follow. But there is one very important thing that to my knowledge should be given due importance and needs an immediate solution.only then can you be called a superior state in the true sense.Kerela which is called gods own country and which has an 100 % l...

Listen to them

Life is always like the two sides of a coin.Happiness and sorrows take turns rolling into your life uninvitingly at different stages.Thanking god for the former and cursing him for the latter. We at times of miseries, detest our lives and forget to convince and cajole ourselves that its just the other side of the coin, and its just an interval. Those are the times we should remember a few hundreds who get to see only the darker side of life. They are banned by the laws of god to see the brighter side of life. They have no place in any institution, neither gods nor mans. They have no homes,no schools. They are not part of globalisation, revolution, resolutions and technologies.of which we talk of proudly.Yes they do contribute in global-warming,burning tons and tons of clothes thrown to them by large hearted people mainly done to clean their houses. When our children are entering into a digital world there are these children of the street who have not seen the doors of a school.Get a little cl...
